Description: Connecting Rod (fracture split) Ford Motor Company has already used more than 25 million Powder Forged (PF) connecting rods in its North American engines and introduced PF rods into its European Sigma engine. Connecting Rod PM connecting rods are currently used by a large number of car companies as a cost effective and high performance replacement for the traditional cast and machined rod.

The PF rod shown is used by BMW in Germany and illustrates the 'fracture splitting' of the rod and cap thereby saving additional machining operations. Total cost savings of over 20% are reported. Winner of an EPMA Annual Award for innovations in powder metallurgy, this powder forged connecting rod is used in BMW engines (such as the V8), and incorporates a fracture split design unique to powder metallurgy.
