Description:
This MIM part is used as a shield for radiation in medical application of radioactive isotopes.

Composition: MIM is performed with a polymer-wax feedstock of a two phase tungsten heavy alloy with 3wt% Fe and 4wt% Ni. Special care has been taken to avoid segregation of trace elements to the interphases. The overall dimensions of the part are 55x16x25mm . The design of the part is optimised by numerical mould flow analysis due to the complex shape to prevent critical binding link positions.

Description: Conventionally, complex shape parts of tungsten heavy alloys have been produced by milling of sintered semifinished material. In IFAM, the alloy composition was adapted to meet properties requirements and MIM parameters. The part covers the syringe and screens radiation from injection of a radiactive medicine.
