This book is intended to be of help to people who know how to operate machine tools but often find it difficult to understand the recommendations for tool selection, particularly in the case of hardmetal.

Workpiece materials are dealt with together with an attempt to discuss the way they machine. The various cutting materials in use are also listed and the types of cutting tool on which they are mounted are dealt with.

The main machining processes are discussed where the cutting parameters which are required for the different machining operations are described in relation to the work piece materials involved and to the cutting material being used.

Finally a range of practical machining examples is given as an aid to the selection of appropriate cutting materials and suitable cutting conditions.
