Morris Sonsino’s work in fatigue design of P/M products has
contributed greatly to the store of P/M data however, even more
significant is his ability to provide design engineers with
guidelines on the unique characteristics of P/M materials and
hence on the design concepts and rules appropriate to P/M products.
This title represents a very important “tool” for the PM structural
parts industry in its promotion of the use of P/M products in
high performance applications.
The publication proceeds to give solid information on the required
fatigue notch factors for the presence of external notches and
the approach to allowing for mean stress effects. These differ
significantly from the factors normally applied for wrought
products. In particular, the relatively low notch sensitivity
of P/M materials is emphasized.
