Books with anything useful and quantitative to say about the
real engineering performance of ferrous
PM materials are, to say the least, quite thin on the ground.
This book considers a broad range of mechanical engineering
performance criteria for PM materials in the language of both
the materials scientist, in giving much detail on structure/property
relationships (particularly if the porosity can be considered
as a microstructional feature in these materials) and the design
engineer, in providing quantitative information on most performance
criteria required for design and giving much useful guidance
on approaches to designing with PM materials.
The book begins with an introductory description of the PM process
and materials. The subsequent chapters treat the following subjects:
• General properties and fracture processes in sintered
ferrous materials and the influence of porosity, chemical composition
and density
• Properties under static, impact and fatigue loads
• Design of sintered elements to be subjected to static
and fatigue loads
• Some theoretical aspects of fracture processes of sintered
materials
