MEMO TO EPMA Members
REACH: Supplier's Questionnaire Stage 1 and 2
1. Your trade association EPMA has prepared the questionnaires attached to be sent to your suppliers based in EU. We suggest that the list of substances (cols 1 and 2 in Table 1, Stage 1) should be drafted by your technical and EHQ departments; we suggest that the letter should be sent out by your purchasing department. You may also ask assistance to your suppliers to fill out Table 1.
If you are not sure whether a substance falls within REACH , go to http://ecb.jrc.it/esis/ web site and give the name or molecular formula of the substance (e.g. Dicopper oxide or Cu2O). If this one has an “EINECS” or “CAS” number, it is likely that it will have to be registered (e.g. EC# 215-270-7 or CAS# 1317-39-1 for Dicopper oxide). EINECS numbers may be added in Table 1 to the substance name.
2. REACH is complicated. Therefore to avoid confusing suppliers who are not familiar with REACH, we have drafted suppliers' questionnaires in stages. Depending upon your suppliers you may decide to combine some of these stages.
Stage 1 is a first contact letter with your supplier to:
1) check whether he is aware of REACH
2) agree on the purchased substances
3) name the REACH contact person in the supplier company.
On receipt back from your suppliers we suggest you send the "Stage 2" questionnaire, the main purpose of which is Pre-Registration. Subsequent liaison will probably concern other details of the Registration dossier (uses, exposure scenarios, risk management methods, Authorisation etc).
