LASCO designed and constructed the first upstroke press for a customer from the USA. The machine will form specific metal powder mixtures into flat cylindrical bodies that will solve thermal-energy problems in the end application. The customer's process and quality requirements favored an upstroke design instead of a classical hydraulic withdrawal press. On the upstroking press the powder is filled with a filling shoe and then pressed from below against an anvil that closes the die shuts from above. This machine is the first in the new UK series of presses and is designed for a pressing force of 500 metric tons. This new method was selected to allow the comparatively thin plates to be formed with high accuracy and output rate. Deciding factors in the contract award to LASCO were LASCO´s reputation in the industry and the willingness to develop unique capabilities to meet specific applications.
