Dienet - Thematic Network on Die Compaction Modelling

Powder Processing can offer environmental benefits when compared to other metals forming technologies. However a major drawback is the long delivery times of new tooling.

The objective of the Dienet programme which ran from 2001 to 2005 was to develop computer simulation packages that accelerate and improve the design and production capabilities of complex tooling. Covering a wide range of materials, the work was carried out by a total of 26 Manufacturers and Research Organisations across Europe.

The network linked a number of independent European and National Programmes focusing on Input Data, Software Development and Validation, and included evaluating experimentally produced components. A text book, including information relating to the project , will be published in late 2006 . Details will be available in the Publications section.

EPMA Crack Detection Project

The EPMA Crack Detection Project was a State of the Art review funded by a consortium of 12 EPMA members; AEA Technology (UK) being the managing contractor.

The results of this project are confidential to the Project Consortium members only.

EPMA Microwave Sintering Project

The first phase of the Microwave Sintering Project, a feasibility study, was successfully finalized end of year 2000. 15 EPMA member companies contributed to the project both financially and by their own technologies. Dr Frank Petzoldt and Dr Barbara Scholz, Fraunhofer Institut IFAM, Bremen and Prof. Monica Willert-Porada and Dipl.-Ing. Ho-Seon Park, University of Bayreuth carried out the microwave sintering experiments and also evaluated the obtained properties of sintered test bars and components.

This study showed that microwave sintering successfully could be applied for sintered steel components. The project continued in a second phase that ended in 2002.

Results of the Project results were confidential to Project Members

MIMNET Thematic Network

MIMNET was a European funded thematic network on European Standards for Metal Injection Moulding that ran from 1997 to 2000 and involved 30 partners. Its outputs were a draft European Standard relating to stainless and heat treatable steels, which went forward to CEN (European Standardisation Committee) for approval.

The draft standard was subsequently accepted for inclusion in the work programme of ISO TC 119 SC5, which itself has recently issued a draft ISO standard for MIM. Along with the materials standard also submitted to CEN was a draft standard for shrinkage measurements in MIM feedstocks. The MIMNET members provided the core for the formation of the EuroMIM sectoral Group.
