2007 PM Training Course to be held in Kosice, Slovakia

The third annual PM Training Course, organised by the EPMA and funded by the European Union Marie Curie Actions, will be held in the culturally rich city of Kosice. Located towards the east of Slovakia, it is the second largest city in Slovakia. The city boasts a long and rich history, with Gothic cathedrals and many beautiful monuments and buildings of great cultural and historical interest as well as several galleries and museums.
"The 2007 programme is currently being worked on and is shaping up to being one of the most interesting yet" said Joan Hallward, Administrative Coordinator. She added "Although we are in the planning stage for next year's programme, we have a strong foundation from which to build on and I am looking forward to another successful course."

A booklet containing more information on the 2007 PM Training Course, including programme details, will be available in early 2007, from this micro-site.

Second PM Training Course Continues the Success Story

Hot on the heels of last year's popular event in Aachen, the second in the series of Powder Metallurgy Training Courses, took place from 24th June to 2nd July in Grenoble, France, the capitol of the Alps. The event was hosted by Professor Didier Bouvard and his team from INPG and coordinated by Dr Bob Moon of Nottingham University and Joan Hallward from the EPMA.

The week-long Summer School and two-day Short Course, was attended by 70 students, (whittled down from a hopeful 155 applicants). Thanks to funding from the EU Marie Curie programme, students were able to exchange views and solve problems with their counterparts from 22 different European countries. Eminent speakers, drawn from both academia and industry, delivered lectures on the Design and Capabilities of PM Components and Materials, as well as on Hardmetals and Modelling. Plant tours, an integral feature of the Training Course, were made to Sandvik Hard Materials and Federal Mogul Sintered Products, and a day of dedicated laboratory work was conducted at INPG.

It was not however, all work and no play. Highlights of the week included a liqueur tasting during a tour of the famous Chartreuse cellars and riding the teleferique up to La Bastille and surveying the magnificent view over the river Isère and its valley.

It was a very rewarding nine days for all who took part and served to reinforce the excellent reputation, which the EPMA Summer Schools has established over the years. Next year's event will take place at SAS Kosice in Slovakia and full details will be made available early in 2007.
