EPMA PM Training Course Micro-Site

News Brief

EPMA New Look Website

Over the past few months the EPMA team has been working hard enhancing and transforming the original EPMA website. The website has kept the same structure, but with a few little additions, to make the overall site easier to use, such as the scroll-out menu section, on the left hand side screen, which will allow for easier access to some of the less well-known web pages, as well as better navigation and functionality for the entire site.

The biggest upgrade for the new look website has been the ‘About PM’ section, which has been totally redesigned and rewritten from the ground up.

The new ‘About PM’ area has been designed as an introduction to the PM industry. The navigation within the section has been made easier to use, as well as providing an upgraded layout, which provides a more logical approach of informing new PM customers on the subject of the powder metallurgy process and the industry as a whole. The About PM section boasts over 100 case studies, which add depth and scope to the area. The case studies can be searched by ‘Name’, ‘Material’ or ‘Application’.

All the previous areas of the website have been retained, such as the News, Events and the PM Publication areas to name but a few. Whilst the website upgrade was being developed, the content of the site was also renewed with updates to the Working Groups/Committees, new EPMA Members and the R&D section.

“We have given the website an upgrade to help keep the look and style fresh and modern” said Andrew Almond Marketing Manager and he added “Behind the screens the EPMA team are continuously updating and enhancing the website to ensure the user, whether they are a new user or existing member, receive the best possible information on Powder Metallurgy and the EPMA”.

EPMA Awards for Excellence in Powder Metallurgy 2006

The 14 th annual EPMA Awards took place at the Euro PM2006 Congress & Exhibition helping to showcase the PM industry's innovation and excellence. For the past 13 years the annual awards have promoted 'innovation' within the PM industry. A change of format after the Euro PM2005 event, has seen the 2006 EPMA Awards for Excellence in Powder Metallurgy encourage excellence as well as innovation, which in turn has helped to foster and encourage the number of participants at this year's event.

The 2006 EPMA Awards for Excellence in Powder Metallurgy, sponsored by Metal Powder Report, has been another difficult year for the judges to decide on. The level of quality from all the entrants has been raised once again, as the competition has attracted components from many industry-leading companies, such as MG Minigears, last years winners OBE, and Alliance SA, to name but a few.

In a change to the event format, the Awards presentation was combined with the opening plenary presentation, presided by this year's chairmen Philippe Gundermann, Eurotungstene Metal Powders,d'Jeff van der Ven, ITB Precisietechniek, with the awards being presented by the EPMA's President Dr. Cesar Mollins.

The highly coveted prize of 'Award of Merit' went to Hilti AG, Liechtenstein and Ceratizit of Luxembourg for their TE-C3X Drill Bit. The judges established that the TE-C3X Drill Bit should take first prize due to the TE-C3X being the world's first truly mass-produced, functionally graded hardmetal part, which, most importantly for the customer, has substantially improved the performance - speed and lifetime - and robustness of the TE-3CX Drill Bit.

Due to the high standard of entries the judges decided to jointly award the 'Highly Commended' accolades between two deserving companies and products, Ames SA, Spain, for their 'Journal Bearing' and to GKN Sinter Metals, Germany, for their 'Shock Absorber Piston'.

Within the Awards presentation Executive Director of the EPMA, Jonathan Wroe said 'I would like to thank the parts makers for sending in their entries to this year's competition and the panel of judges, who took the time to assess each and every entry'.

Profiles of this year's featured parts and further technical data is available to download in PDF electronic format from the EPMA website - www.epma.com
