Judging Criteria

Judges appointed by the EPMA will use the following criteria to assess each entry:

Objectives and State of the Art (25% of total marks):
the application should explain the thesis objectives, the current State of the Art and how the research improves on it.

Practical Interest (25%):
the submission should show awareness of the practical implications and industrial significance of the research. It should state what is needed to convert the work into an industrial process.

Scientific Interest (25%):
amount and level of contribution to fundamental scientific understanding of the subject area.

Presentation (25%):
a proportion of marks will be given for the abstract and the balance of marks will be given in the evaluation of the short-listed full theses.
Thesis diagrams and illustrations should be original, self explanatory and should employ good contrast.
References should be presented in a form from which the reader can find the original.

General
If theses of insufficient standard are submitted, the judges reserve the right not to make the awards.
Within the Competition there will be no preference for specific subjects or topics within powder metallurgy.
