Boron Behaviour Under Compression Tests of HIPed Semi-Product Specimens of EP741NP Nickel-Based Superalloy

The results of the detailed investigation of boron behaviour in the Ni-based superalloy of the type EP741NP fabricated via HIP PM under compression tests are presented. Compression tests of the cylindrical of PM HIP compact specimens have been carried out at 1050?? (below ?'-solvus tempera-ture) and 10-3 and 10-4 s-1 deformation rates. The study of the microstructure and boron distribution has been performed. The following main methods were used for investigation: light metallography and track autoradiography on boron. Method track autoradiography on boron has been provided the possibility to study macro-, metho-, and micro inhomogeneity of boron. The inhomogeneity of the microstructure and boron with formation of the three zones such as the compression, expansion zones, and also the shear zone with the �necklace� type structure were detected. Significant influence of the inhomogeneity of the microstructure and particularly of the �necklace� structure formation on boron distribution was found.
