In conventional PM of low alloyed steels different alloying routes are used (fully pre-alloyed powders, diffusion alloying powders, mix of elemental powders), but always using powder sizes that can allow uniaxial pressing, that means compressibility and flow features. In this sense, fully pre-alloyed gas atomized powders (including carbon content) never have been an option because its small size make unable the powders to be pressed. These powders should be granulated before being uniaxially pressed and the binder used in the granulating process has to be eliminated in the first steps of the sintering cycle. As another possible advantage of the process, the use of a low particle size can activate the sintering performance.
