Spark Plasma Sintering of Cryomilled Copper

Abstract

The Design Of Experiment (DOE) approach was implemented to assess the sintering mechanism of nanostructured cryomilled copper during Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). The main and interaction effects on density of agglomerate size (with two granulometric ranges: < 25 and 25-45 ?m), temperature and pressure were investigated using a 23 factorial design experiment. In the temperature range 600-700�C and pressure range 20-30 MPa, temperature was the main factor. It was followed by pressure while agglomerate size was seen to have less effect. As far as effective consolidation by sintering is concerned, the main parameter is temperature, since pressure does not have a significant effect.
