Abstract

The PM Industry’s demand towards production presses with respect to geometrical shape, density and tolerances for today’s compacts have attained an extreme high level. As a result there is an increasing need for sensitive and fast handling systems to transfer the parts from the press to the furnace – without manual interference. Such task needs to be taken care of very thoroughly, since every part geometry has its specific handling challenges. Also, there are individual requirements at each production site, due to the local infrastructure and space available. Automation systems therefore need to be custom made solutions, specifically developed for each application. There are several handling technologies available: • linear handling systems • scara robot systems • six axis robots in combination with different types of powder and sizing presses: • mechanical presses • hydraulic presses • electric presses This paper deals with the various combinations of the above referred to systems, disclosing their advantages and benefits when used in daily production, on the basis of actual realized solutions.
