Abstract

The nanocrystalline Permalloy and Supermalloy (79Ni16Fe5Mo) powders were prepared by wet and dry mechanical alloying. The experiments of heat treatments on the Permalloy Supermalloy) and carbonyl Fe mixture powders have been made in order to obtain core-shell like particles by micro-alloying. The large (100 µm mean size) Permalloy particles are surrounded by very small particles of carbonyl Fe (5-8 µm mean size) and by micro-alloying an (un-uniformly) layer of Fe-rich composition was obtained. Structural, microstructural and technological characterization of such obtained powders was made by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and laser particle size analyser. Microalloying in core-shell type powders was proved by Fe concentration profile (EDX microanalysis) The magnetic and electrical properties and thermal stability of the nanostructured Permaloy/Rhometal powders were studied by M(H) curves, electrical resistivity and differential scanning calorimetry measurements.
