Abstract

In this research a new formulation of feedstock is designed for the metal injection moulding of duplex stainless steel parts. A multicomponent binder based on polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) was selected for the process. Thermogravimetric analyses and an experimental rheological study have been performed to characterize the properties and evaluate the influence of PEG addition on the rheological behavior and stability of binder system. The effects of PEG concentration, shear rate and temperature were investigated via capillary rheometer method and the best combination of the binder system has been selected. Partially water–soluble binder is used looking for reducing debinding duration and more environmentally-friendly formulations.
