Sintered Steels and Bronzes Modified with MoS2 Nanoparticles: Sliding Bearings Development and Applications

Sintered steels find increasing application as bearings and gears due to economical and technical reasons. Materials used for making these machine elements need to have high strength, good wear resistance and low coefficient of friction. The technology of PM sleeve manufacturing and nanoparticles solid lubricant modification is described. The results of the friction tests reveal about achievement of quasi-hydrodynamic lubrication regime of PM bearing. The lowest friction coefficient is found to be f=0.04 at the 500oC. The great effect of wear rate diminishing is obtained at 300-500oC due to preservation of interaction of microasperities at sliding interface in quasi-hydrodynamic lubrication regime.
