Microstructure and Shape Memory Characteristics of Ti-55at%Ni Alloy Fabricated by PM Process

Abstract

In this work, Ti-55at%Ni shape memory alloy (SMA) was fabricated using mixed elemental powders by the PM process. The fabrication conditions of the Ti-55at%Ni alloy by pulse-current sintering were investigated experimentally. The effects of solution treatment and aging treatment conditions on the microstructure and the shape memory characteristics were also investigated. As a result, the optimum sintering and solution-treatment conditions were found out by experiments. And then the effect of aging conditions on the microstructure of the alloy was examined to draw a map of the aging time-temperature transformation. The change in microstructure of the PM alloy with aging temperature and holding time was different from that of the wrought alloy. The deformation behavior changes greatly with the microstructure of the alloy.
