Abstract

Due to special designs, several PM-parts need additional machining operations. Green machining is a suitable route for a cost efficient process. Some papers were shown in the years since 2000 which deal with green machining, especially drilling operations. But up to now beside the tool shape for efficient machining operation, e.g. the break outs and burrs are not completely measured.

Based on the public founded project “Grünspan”, DoE was used to investigate the edges and burrs at the sintered part surface next to drilled bore holes. A model is implemented which gives a forecast of the edge shape. Furthermore a measuring method to describe the complete edge as a continuum is verified and validated to give best forecast of edge shape and to minimize material break out.
