An Harmonisation Dossier has been finalised in 2015 by ESA in close collaboration with all European Space stakeholders for developing Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies for high-end space parts. Based on this dossier a roadmap has been issued collating the technological development required to mature AM toward space use. The procurement and verification of the raw materials has been identified as one of the very critical elements for a successful development of these technologies. In this paper, the status of the activities undertaken to better assess the suitability of raw materials powder will be presented, including on the one hand the investigations performed within the ESA laboratories and, on the other hand, the activities pursued within Industry.
