New Functional Segregation Free Mixtures For High Density And High Precision P/M Components

Abstract

Powder metallurgy (P/M) has advantage of cost effective with high efficiency in the use of raw material and low energy consumption. P/M components have been widely and increasingly applied for automobile applications all over the world. Due to the recent background of light weighting and fuel saving for automobile industry, higher density with higher strength and more complicated shape are required for P/M components. To satisfy the demands, new functional segregation free mixtures has been developed. Not only preventing dusting or segregating of graphite, but also specific functional property is enhanced by using developed binding agent, lubricant, additives and mixing technique. KP-Series is developed for higher density applications, KS-Series is for more precision applications with better machinability and KF-Series is for less weight variation. In this paper, properties of those functional segregation free mixtures are revealed.
