Abstract

High density in the green stage without any defects in pressurefree processes is crucial for high density in the sintered stage. Sedimentation of powders in water based slurries with enhanced gravity using High-speed Centrifugal Compaction Process (HCP) offers the opportunity to get the needed high densities in the green stage. Most works focus on functionally graded materials (FGM) and lead only to relatively simple geometries with limited functionality. At Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden a new binder based process route was developed, which allows manufacturing of homogeneous green parts. This green parts can be machined easily to enhance the geometrical complexity of the manufacture near net shape structures. This process is especially interesting for materials and material combinations as well as graded structures, which are difficult to machine in the sintered stage.
