Titanium P/M is used widely in the medical industry, known mostly for plasma spray coatings of orthopedic devices. More recently, porous metal coatings for bone ingrowth has become commoditized over the past decade by numerous groups. Due to the evolution of additive manufacturing, titanium P/M has heightened awareness in the medical industry but the manufacturing costs create an entry barrier. Praxis Technology has developed a cost effective method for manufacturing a high performance titanium P/M orthopedic implant having both dense and porous sections for strength and bone-ingrowth. Results on this work will be discussed.
