PVD-coated Hardmetal On Machining Inconel718

Abstract

This study was investigated the effect of WC particle size in alloys via powder metallugry and coating structure on cutting performance when machining Inconel718 under typical cutting conditions.

According to the result based on cutting test the WC particle size in WC-Co alloy had influence on crater and flank wear resistance when machining Inconel718. In other words the fine grained WC-Co alloys had better flank wear resistance than that of coarse WC-Co alloys. On the other hand the crater wear resistance exhibited opposite pattern. This might to be due to the increment of hardness and chemical reaction site with the decreasing WC particle size in WC-Co alloys respectively.

In additions the optimized PVD coating structure and composition was drawn from several kinds of PVD coating trial and finally optium coating found a suitable for machining Inconel718.
