MIM Parts for Automotive Transmission
Benefit: Increased Component Complexity
Main Forming Process: Metal Injection Moulding
End Use Sector: Automotive
Material: Ferrous

Description

All parts are made from iron-2% nickel powder sintered to a final density greater than 7.4 g/cm3. Tensile strength is put at 450 MPa; hardness is 500+250HV1.Three examples are shown here of metal injection moulded parts which have found applications in automotive transmission and help to synchronise the reverse gear

In the case of the braking disc (left) a special design feature is the tooth system.
