Gefertec GmbH, based in Berlin has launched arcLab, its new Additive Manufacturing machine specifically designed to meet the needs of universities and research institutions. The arcLab aims to simplify the integration of Directed Energy Deposition (DED) into academic teaching and research environments.

Requiring around five square meters of space, the arcLab can be easily integrated into a laboratory setting. Equipped with Siemens’ Sinumerik One control system, it introduces students to a globally recognised industrial standard. The multi-axis CNC system enables the production of components up to 1,200 x 1,200 x 1,200 mm from steel, aluminium, and other alloys.

For research and student-led projects, the arcLab offers extensive sensor technology and a process monitoring system. Integrated components include three camera systems, a pyrometer, and gas flow measurement, allowing users to capture and analyse process parameters in detail.
