Overall Budget: ca € 83’000
Sectoral Group: EuroPress&Sinter
Contractor: IAPK, Institut für Anwendungstechnik Pulvermetallurgie und Keramik an der RWTH Aachen e.V. (Institute of Applied Powder Metallurgy and Ceramics at RWTH Aachen University)
The InducSim project is a proposed research activity that the IAPK of the RWTH Aachen University has first presented during our Euro PM2023 Congress and Exhibition in October 2023 in Lisbon. The basic idea of the project is outlined in the enclosed pdf.
IAPK is able to model the distortion during induction hardening of PM parts, and this model could be validated on some sintered geometries. They plan to give answers to the following questions:
- Which material parameters have the most influence on the heat treatment results?
- How accurate is finite element prediction of hardness and residual stress profiles for both simple and complex induction hardened sintered parts?
- What correlations can be identified between simulation outputs and cracking risks?
Additionally, some insight could be derived on how accurate finite element prediction for distortion of parts with demanding geometrical features (thin cross sections, asymmetry…) is.
