The 5-day programme was hosted and coordinated by Dr Christian Gierl-Mayer of TU Wien and also Dr Marco Actis-Grande of the Politecnico di Torino.
In the middle of May the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) held its Quality for Powder Metallurgy (PM) Seminar in Seville. The 2-day technical seminar focused on a number of aspects relating to quality techniques and technology for PM structural parts.
The Euro PM2018 Congress and Exhibition will take place in Bilbao, Spain from 14 -18 October 2018 and will be an all topic event, encompassing over 300 technical papers on the following areas of the PM industry:
- Additive Manufacturing
- Hard Materials and Diamond Tools
- Hot Isostatic Pressing
- New Materials and Applications
- Powder Injection Moulding
- Press & Sinter
If you are involved in one or more of these areas, then attending this year's enlarged Euro PM2018 Congress & Exhibition will make Bilbao the place to be in 2018!
The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) will soon launch a club project on Micro-mechanical testing: a quantitative method for measuring local mechanical properties in hardmetals – Stage 2 in partnership with CEIT, San Sebastian, NPL, London and UPC, Barcelona.
During EPMA’s Functional Materials Seminar, hosted by Forschungszentrum Jülich in April, Peter Kjeldsteen (Sintex a/s) announced his proposal for the first Functional Materials Club Project. The project proposes that a concept car is built (a hybrid car with combustion engine, electric motor and battery) which contains as many as possible parts made from PM manufacturing techniques. The purpose of this project is not to build the perfect hybrid car, but to demonstrate that there is a sufficient supply chain to produce all the relevant parts by powder metallurgical manufacturing methods.
In the run up to the launch of the forthcoming Euro PM2018 Congress & Exhibition Technical Programme brochure, EPMA have released a range of technical programme interviews, recorded at the Euro PM2018 Congress & Exhibition Technical Programme Committee Meeting, featuring members of the Technical Programme Committee who are providing insights into this year's Euro PM event content and what delegates and attendees can expect from the city of Bilbao as a Euro PM location.
An EPMA Member opportunity has arisen for an EPMA Member company to exhibit, free of charge, at one of the following events, due to the recent reduced level of resources available at the EPMA:
- Farnborough International Airshow - 16 - 20 July, Farnborough UK (Aerospace Sector event) - 12m2 booth size
- TCT Show - 25 - 27 September, Birmingham NEC, UK (Additive Manufacturing Event) - 9m2 booth size
The EPMA Team is expanding with two new roles as well as looking for a Marketing Assistant replacement now Sam Timmis has left his role at the EPMA.
For more information on the range of current roles available at the EPMA, please visit the Industry Jobs page.
EPMA has moved from its Talbot House secretariat office to a new location on Shrewsbury Business Park, which will provide increased office space for the expanding EPMA team. The new EPMA office address is:
European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA)
1st floor, Haughmond View
Shrewsbury Business Park
Telephone: +44 (0) 1743 248899
Fax: +44 (0) 1743 362968
Please make a note of the EPMA's new address, which will incorporated and updated on all EPMA literature moving forward.
To further promote the forthcoming EPMA 2018 Powder Metallurgy Component Awards, which over the years, have done much to promote and stimulate interest in PM technology, a promotional video explaining why EPMA Members should get involved with this year's competition has been launched and can be viewed at youtu.be/Rl_-6NvEJDc.
The SUPREME Project (who EPMA are a key partner) can announce its first Newsletter of 2018. The first edition newsletter of the SUPREME project includes a forward from the coordinator; Dr Arnaud Witomski from CEA-Liten, an update regarding how the project has been promoted within the PM community so far, presentation video links from the consortium partners, details on the latest meetings and workshops and information regarding the consortium members.
The 31st European Powder Metallurgy Association General Assembly was held in Brussels, 22-23 March at the HUSA President Park Hotel, where EPMA Board, Council Members met to discuss pertinent issues affecting the EPMA and the Powder Metallurgy Industry. There was the ability to network at the annual General Assembly Dinner, which this year took place at Brasserie Mundy.
The Systematic Approach to Quality Management in Powder Metallurgy (PM) Seminar will mainly focus on the quality of Powder Metallurgy (PM) Structural Parts. PM Structural Parts are mainly produced by mixing, die pressing and heat (sintering) powder alloys before possible post processing. The main market for iron based PM Structural Parts is the automotive industry. The seminar will focus on the PM Structural Parts processes but most of the presented approaches can be applied to other sectors.
European Powder Metallurgy Associations (EPMA) annual Euro PM Congress & Exhibition, which this year is taking place in Bilbao, Spain, has attracted a record number of abstracts since the abstract submission deadline passed at the end of January.
Last week, the EuroHIP group hosted the Design for HIP Seminar in Västerås, Sweden. The two days featured presentations from 12 industry experts, an open discussion about the future of HIP as well as a site visit to the nearby Quintus Technologies facilities.
Brussels 23 January 2018 – CECIMO, the European Association of the Machine Tool Industry, and EPMA, the European Powder Metallurgy Association, signed an agreement, which aims at promoting additive manufacturing through diversified actions.
