Following the standard leadership rotation, the European Powder Metallurgy Institutes (EPMI) Working Group has appointed Prof. Dr. Ing. Mónica Campos of Universidad Carlos III Madrid as its new co-chair. Her four-year tenure, which officially commenced on 1 February 2026 and extends through 31 January 2030, follows the successful term of Adj. Prof. Dr. Dr. Habil Susanne Norgren of Sandvik AB and Lund University.

Professor Campos brings to the position an internationally distinguished academic background. Since 1999, she has maintained a prolific research trajectory, publishing over 140 scientific articles, the majority of which feature in top-quartile journals. Her expertise encompasses the comprehensive powder metallurgy value chain, including powder design, additive manufacturing, sintering behaviour, and the mechanical performance of specialized components. A significant portion of her research focuses on materials for extreme environments, such as oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels for the nuclear sector and high-entropy alloys for high-temperature structural applications.

In addition to her scientific achievements, Professor Campos is a dedicated mentor and academic leader, having supervised 14 PhD theses and numerous postgraduate projects. Her career-long integration of high-impact research and educational excellence was recently recognized with the EPMA Fellowship Award in 2025.

In her new role, Professor Campos joins co-chair Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Weißgärber, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials (IFAM) Dresden, who will continue to lead the group until January 2028.

The EPMA welcomes Professor Campos and anticipates a fruitful collaboration that will continue to advance the strategic initiatives of the EPMI Working Group. Simultaneously, the EPMA extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Susanne Norgren for her invaluable service over the past four years and for her ongoing commitment to the group’s activities.
